The Department offers as graduate programs a Master\u2019s in Agro ecology, Rural Development and Agro tourism, and a Master\u2019s in Food Science, Technology and Control, both leading to the PhD Program in Agricultural and Food Resources and Technologies. The Department\u2019s faculty is involved in research in Food Science and Technology\u00a0\u00a0and Animal Science. Specific research topics on\u00a0 Food Science and Technology are: postharvest technology, focusing on the use of non-contaminant and environmentally friendly treatments for improving food quality and shelf life; chemical contaminants in food, focusing on Arsenic detection in foods; sensory evaluation; and processing of foods from animal origin, focusing on the application of fibre and bioactive compounds derived from vegetable by-products and the use of essential oils and natural preservatives. Specific research topics on Animal Science are: milking of small ruminants, focused on ensuring animal welfare and on farm measures to guarantee food safety; and quantitative genetics to improve rabbit production, meat quality and animal welfare.
